Yo nací en un surco de judías (I was born in a furrow of beans) sets out to answer why fewer and fewer people want to work in farming and livestock. The piece grew out of a 3,635-kilometre journey through sparsely populated parts of Spain, putting that question to women farmers and herders. In their homes, vegetable plots, barns and farms, while picking fruit, watering terraces or out with the herd, they explained why they do this work and why it is so hard to make a living from it.
The show is that journey, told with objects and food. Dramaturgy and direction are by Laura Santos, who performs alongside Patricia Arroyo and Belén de Santiago, with scientific advice from Petra Benyei and Daniel Iglesias (Proyecto FARM); it is produced by CSIC, Fundación la Caixa, Ayuntamiento de Madrid and almealera. For adults and ages 12 and up; running time 70 minutes. Tickets from €9. The performance takes place at Teatro El Sauzal on Saturday 24 October 2026, at 20:00.
