Red Rock Surf Academy

Red Rock Surf Academy is based in El Médano, on Paseo Mercedes de la Roja, in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, and operates under the name Red Rock Surf & Kite Academy. Surf lessons last up to two hours and run with a maximum of six students per instructor: when there are waves they are used right in front of the centre, where the bottom is sand, and when there are none the school looks for them on nearby beaches. Foam boards in a range of volumes match the equipment to each student's weight and level, and the rental covers softboards, bodyboards and wetsuits.

Kitesurfing is taught in phases: first handling the kite on the beach, with the safety rules and with launching, landing and relaunching; then body dragging in the water, with waterproof walkie-talkies for talking to the instructor; and finally the water start, up to riding out and back independently. The rental equipment is F-One and Cabrinha, and the safety kit covers a flotation vest, helmet, harness and leash. The wingfoil course is split into three phases over three days, individually or in groups of up to four people, with the advanced phases held at the Granadilla dock. E-foiling on Fliteboard equipment, with an introductory session before going out, and stand up paddle across the bay of El Médano towards Montaña Roja on rigid and inflatable boards complete the offer.
