Ermita de San Antonio Abad
Historic Vegueta hermitage where tradition says Columbus prayed, on the spot where the city was founded.

The Ermita de San Antonio Abad, also known as the Ermita de Colón, stands on the square of the same name in the Vegueta district. Founded with the city in 1478, it was one of the first Christian places of worship on the island and served as the first parish until the Cathedral of Santa Ana was built.
Tradition holds that Christopher Columbus prayed here before setting sail for America in 1492. The current building dates from 1757 and is listed as a Cultural Heritage site.

Parque San Telmo
The oldest public park in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on the edge of Triana and steps from its main shopping street. Inside stand the Ermita de San Telmo, a tiled modernist kiosk and a bandstand where the municipal band performs. Tall Indian laurels shade most of the square, and the central walk with its benches makes it a place to sit down in the middle of the city. The San Telmo bus interchange is right next door, so public transport leaves you at the gate.
