Museo Agrícola El Patio
One of the oldest and largest farming estates on Lanzarote, in Tiagua, now an ethnographic museum that preserves gofio windmills, a wine cellar and the tools of traditional country life.
The Museo Agrícola El Patio occupies a 19th-century estate in the village of Tiagua, in the municipality of Teguise, and recreates rural Lanzarote life before mechanisation. Whitewashed courtyards, dry-stone walls and palm trees surround the old granaries, the wine press and the stables, together with a tower windmill and a female windmill that still show how grain was ground into gofio.
The route leads the visitor through the ethnographic rooms, the cactus garden and the bodega, where the cultivation of vines on volcanic soil and the island's enarenado technique are explained. It is a calm stop for understanding Lanzarote's bond with its arid land and its water, and for seeing the farm tools, the working camel and the trades that sustained island agriculture up close.
