Los Nateros
Los Nateros is a farming and recreational area in La Matanza de Acentejo, on the mid slopes of northern Tenerife at around 635 metres. Its name comes from the stone walls that hold back soil and water on the hillside, a practice that has slowly made this ground fertile. Several footpaths set off among terraced vines, chestnut trees and pine woods, and the town council has laid out fitness circuits, a small square and a play area.
Los Nateros sits on the mid slopes of La Matanza de Acentejo, on the northern side of Tenerife, at around 635 metres above sea level. The landscape is built from terraces held up by dry stone walls, the nateros that give the place its name, with vines worked along the contour lines, old chestnut trees and pine woods higher up. It remains one of the most characteristic farming areas of the municipality, where potatoes, vines and vegetables are still grown.
Several walks start here. The local path SL 292 draws a short circuit of a little over a kilometre through orchards and old farmland, within reach of almost anyone. Anyone after a longer day can carry on towards Morra del Pino, some six kilometres of moderate difficulty that take around three hours, or climb the hill of La Bandera. The council has added two outdoor fitness circuits, a small square and a play area, and has restored the stretch that links up with La Vica.
