Cruz del Dornajito
Cruz del Dornajito is the end point of the Camino Real de Chasna itinerary published by La Orotava town council in its La Orotava SlowTours collection. The cross marks the start of the monteverde, the laurel woodland, and the point where private land is left behind. A natural spring here once quenched the thirst of walkers climbing towards the Teide, and the spot still holds moisture.

The municipal itinerary starts at the Ermita de la Candelaria del Lomo and finishes at the Cruz del Dornajito. It is a linear route of 2.98 kilometres, three hours on foot, with a maximum altitude of 1,014 metres and 561 metres of positive ascent. La Orotava town council grades it as high difficulty and warns that it runs along surfaced lanes with a notable gradient, so it recommends suitable footwear and clothing.
The route follows the lower part of the first stage of the old Camino Real de Chasna, the road that linked La Orotava with Vilaflor de Chasna and connected the island from north to south. Naturalists and travellers such as Alexander von Humboldt described this path on their way up to the Teide. At the cross the itinerary joins the Camino Natural Anaga-Chasna, the GR-131 long distance path that crosses Tenerife.

Plenty of people ride the Teide cable car believing it takes them to the summit. It does not. The upper station sits at 3,555 metres and Pico del Teide at 3,715, and the trail between them needs a permit requested in advance. Free, but limited, and easy to miss.
