Camino de los Gracioseros (Risco de Famara)
Old shepherds' path that zigzags down the towering Risco de Famara cliff, in Teguise, to the Río salt pans, with La Graciosa always in view.
The Camino de los Gracioseros is one of Lanzarote's most emblematic trails. Traced by the shepherds and villagers who once climbed down from the Famara massif to the coast, it descends in a dizzying zigzag along the Risco de Famara, the great wall of cliffs that forms the island's northern edge, with constant views of the islet of La Graciosa and the El Río strait.
The route drops from the top of the cliff to the Río salt pans, between rock faces, tabaiba spurges and the dry, luminous landscape so typical of northern Lanzarote. It is a route with a steep drop and stony ground: sturdy hiking footwear, enough water and caution are advisable, especially on the sections most exposed to the wind and to the cliff edge.
