Boca del Paso

sellHiking routesstorefrontIslas24foggy29°C

Boca del Paso is a natural balcony in the uplands of Adeje, at a little over 930 metres, looking straight into the head of the Barranco de las Torres. It is reached on foot along the waymarked PR-TF 71 trail, the Camino de Teresme, with the usual starting points at the hamlet of La Quinta, the old town of Adeje and Ifonche. The ground is stony and very exposed to the sun, with almost no shade along the way.

The spot opens over the system of ravines that drops from the Adeje summits towards the coast, with the Barranco de las Torres and the Barranco del Inglés cut in below. Right beside it stands the Risco de la Boca el Paso, on the step that separates the Adeje slope from the Ifonche plateau. The surroundings are low scrub and bare rock, with no trees to give shade on any stretch. On clear days the view reaches the south western coastal strip of the island.

From Boca del Paso the branch heading north west drops to the hamlet of La Quinta in 1.7 kilometres, about 30 minutes of walking and a little under 100 metres of ascent. Along that stretch you pass remains of the old farming life: threshing floors, terraces, stone and timber water channels, cisterns and ruined country houses, and the path ends beside the Ermita de Santa Margarita, built in the late 16th century. The approaches from the old town of Adeje or from Ifonche are considerably longer and follow the PR-TF 71 with its 71.1 and 71.2 variants. Carry enough water, firm soled shoes and sun protection, because there are no springs and no shade on the way.
