Barranco de Azuaje

sellHiking routesstorefrontIslas24foggy23°C

Nature reserve between Firgas and Moya in northern Gran Canaria, with a lush ravine and a classic trail along the riverbed. Uneven terrain; proper footwear is advisable.

Islas24

The Azuaje ravine divides the municipalities of Firgas and Moya in the north of Gran Canaria and is one of the island's few ravines with running water all year round. It is a designated Special Natural Reserve, forms part of the Doramas Natural Park area and preserves remnants of ancient laurel forest.

The full hiking route from Firgas is around six kilometres, with streambed crossings over logs and slippery stretches, so it is best walked in the dry season. At the bottom of the ravine stand the ruins of the old Azuaje spa hotel, built in 1868 around its medicinal waters. Access is via the GC-350 road, with parking a few hundred metres away, or on foot from Firgas or Moya.
