Playa El Bollullo

El Bollullo is one of the best known beaches in northern Tenerife and also one that asks for a little effort. It lies at the foot of the cliff, with no direct vehicle access down to the sand, and that condition has preserved its character: black volcanic sand, some two hundred metres long, and rock reaching into the water on both sides.

There are two ways in. The first is on foot from Puerto de la Cruz along the coastal path, a little under an hour with the sea in view the whole way. The second is the stepped path down from the El Rincón area, much shorter but steep. There is parking at the top with fewer than fifty spaces, and the 376 intercity bus line serves the area. The swell is strong for much of the year and great care is needed when swimming; the state of the slope has forced the access to close for works in the past, so it is worth checking the situation before going down.
