Parador de Cruz de Tejeda
The parador sits at Cruz de Tejeda, around 1,500 metres up and close to the geometric centre of Gran Canaria, where the roads climbing from Las Palmas, San Mateo, Artenara and Tejeda meet. From the pass the view opens over the great Tejeda basin, with Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga standing out against it. It works as a base for walking the summit country: several waymarked trails start here, among them the S-50 towards Artenara and the descent through the Barranco de la Mina.

Cruz de Tejeda is a pass on the summit ridge of Gran Canaria, at roughly 1,500 metres and near the geometric centre of the island. The house stands at that crossroads, looking into the Tejeda depression, an amphitheatre of ravines and bare rock in which Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga are the obvious landmarks. On clear days Teide shows up to the west above the sea, and the sea of clouds often settles below the pass while the sun holds above it.
The altitude shapes the visit. It is markedly cooler here than on the coast, a warm layer is worth packing even in summer, and mist can move in quickly. The place serves above all as a base for walking the highlands: waymarked routes leave from the pass, among them the S-50 towards Artenara and the descent through the Barranco de la Mina, while by car it connects with Tejeda, Artenara, Valleseco and the summit road. Staying up here makes it easy to set off early and avoid the middle of the day.
