Takeo Takahashi Tríoverified
The Teatro Leal hosts Melodías Forjadas. Jazz para la obra de Martín Chirino, the multidisciplinary project of the Canarian drummer and composer Takeo Takahashi, devised with the Fundación Martín Chirino, which turns the forms, spaces and structures of Chirino's sculpture into musical material. With Sergi Sirvent and David Mengual, and saxophonist Miguel Villar as guest, the trio reads the spiral as repetition and the void as silence. Tickets cost 18 €.
Melodías Forjadas starts from a selection of Martín Chirino's most representative sculptures in order to open a dialogue between two apparently distinct languages, that of sculpture and that of music. Takeo Takahashi, a Canarian musician of Japanese descent, works from a double perspective: a deliberate compositional approach that analyses and translates the formal and expressive parameters of the pieces, and the interpretative freedom of a contemporary jazz trio, in which improvisation keeps every performance live and open. The spiral is read as repetition, development or variation; the sculptural void finds its match in silence, the weight of iron in density and timbre, and movement in rhythm.
The trio is made up of Takeo Takahashi, responsible for the composition and on drums, pianist and trumpeter Sergi Sirvent and double bass player David Mengual, joined as special guest by saxophonist Miguel Villar, who widens the line-up into a contemporary jazz quartet. The project is presented in two concerts, on 26 September at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus and on 1 October at the Teatro Leal; this is the La Laguna date, on Thursday 1 October 2026 at 20:30 at the Teatro Leal in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, with tickets at 18 €. Seats for visitors with reduced mobility are booked by telephone or at the theatre box office.
