Ruta nocturna de senderismo y estrellas por Las Cañadas del Teide
A guided night walk of about 5 kilometres through Las Cañadas del Teide, starting and ending at the Parador Nacional, learning to recognise the stars in the Teide sky. It passes Cañada Blanca and the Roques de García, lasts about two and a half hours and includes a Spanish-speaking guide and torches. On Fridays there is an option with transport from Puerto de la Cruz and Garachico.

The route starts and ends at the main entrance of the Parador Nacional de Las Cañadas del Teide. After the guide's briefing, the group walks about 5 kilometres at night through Cañada Blanca, past the Roques de García and across other parts of the national park, with several stops for photos. Along the way you learn to tell the stars apart, and away from light pollution the Moon and the Milky Way can be seen in detail.
The start time changes with the season: 19:30 in January, February, March, October, November and December; 20:30 in April, May, August and September; and 21:00 in June and July. Be at the Parador at least 15 minutes beforehand. The walk takes about two and a half hours, depending on the pace and size of the group. The transport option runs on Fridays only and picks up at the taxi rank on Plaza del Charco in Puerto de la Cruz two hours before the start, or at Plaza de la Libertad in Garachico two and a half hours before.
The guide speaks Spanish and torches are provided. As it is a night walk, bring warm clothes and comfortable, light footwear suitable for hiking. The route is not wheelchair accessible and not suitable for pushchairs, but a baby carrier is fine. Pets are not allowed.

What to see in Puerto de la Cruz
Puerto de la Cruz was the first tourist town in the Canaries, and it is still the most walkable. You do not come here to lie on pale sand: you come for the old town, the rough sea, the architecture of the seventies and a botanical garden from the eighteenth century.
