Faro de Orchilla

The Faro de Orchilla stands on the southwestern tip of El Hierro, historically regarded as the prime meridian and the westernmost point of the known world before the discovery of America. Surrounded by lava flows and volcanoes, it is reached after a long drive on dirt tracks crossing an almost lunar landscape. It is one of the island's favourite spots to watch the sunset and, thanks to its isolation, an excellent place for stargazing.
