sellParksstorefrontIslas24sunny21°C

A mountain recreation area on the north western slope of Tenerife, above a thousand metres, set in Canary pine forest mixed with faya, tree heath and Canary holly, the species of the island's laurel cloud forest. Access is along the TF-344 road, taking the turning at kilometre 8.8 at the spot known as Choza Casa de la Pradera and then following the El Lagar track. No public transport reaches the site, so you need your own vehicle.

The area occupies a clearing inside one of the densest pine woods in the north of the island, in the upper midlands, where Canary pine grows alongside cloud forest species. Next to it there is a camping zone laid out both for tents and for motorhomes, and the surroundings connect with forest tracks and footpaths that let you walk through the pine wood. It works as a full day out: shade, mountain air and very little noise.

Camping needs prior authorisation. The booking document issued by the Cabildo of Tenerife carries the value of an administrative authorisation, and it can be suspended or cancelled because of fire, forest fire risk, an adverse weather alert or any other unforeseen cause, so it is worth checking the situation before driving up. The final stretch is an unsurfaced track and no public transport serves the area, so bring water, proper footwear and warm clothing for the night.
