Museo Arqueológico de La Gomera (MAG)
Archaeology museum on the pre-Hispanic culture of La Gomera.

In the heart of San Sebastián de La Gomera, the Casa de los Echeverría, an 18th century manor house, guards the memory of the first Gomeros. The Museo Arqueológico de La Gomera brings together more than 21,000 pieces and unfolds the world of the island's aborigines across four themed rooms: their surroundings, their crafts, their daily life and their beliefs, with a central patio displaying dozens of original pieces.
Pottery, idols, stone tools and rock engravings introduce you to a people who communicated from ravine to ravine through Silbo Gomero, the whistled language that still echoes across the island today. A room devoted to funerary rites and symbolism reveals how they understood death and the sacred.
Did you know the house was known as La Casa del Cañón because a cannon once served as a support on one of its corners? Opened to the public in 2007 and run by the Cabildo, the museum takes less than an hour to visit and is the finest gateway to La Gomera's prehispanic past.
