In the La Isleta district of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Castillo de la Luz is a stone fortress raised in 1541 to defend the city's harbour. Carefully restored, it keeps its character as a maritime stronghold and now serves as a museum devoted to the city and its bond with the sea. It is one of the capital's oldest and most recognisable monuments.
Inside it houses a modern-art collection linked to the Gran Canarian sculptor Martín Chirino, whose work engages with the building's historic stone. The visit combines the restored defensive architecture with exhibition rooms, while the surrounding harbour area invites a stroll with Atlantic views.
