Sendero Barranco de La Virgen
A walking route through the Barranco de la Virgen in Valleseco, one of the deepest and narrowest ravines in the north of Gran Canaria. According to the municipal tourism site, the ravine forms part of the Doramas Rural Park and still holds remnants of the laurel forest that once covered the interior of the island, between walls that have sheltered endemic plants, with the laurel pigeon reintroduced in the area.

The Barranco de la Virgen cuts down through the north of Gran Canaria, in the municipality of Valleseco, and is one of the deepest and narrowest ravines on the island. The municipal tourism site places it inside the Doramas Rural Park and notes that it holds remnants of laurel forest, with one of its tributaries, the Barranco Oscuro, designated an Integral Nature Reserve, the strictest level of protection in the Canary network of natural spaces.
Plants that grow almost nowhere else survive between its walls, among them the cresta de gallo and the salvia blanca, and the ravine also carries European protection as a Natura 2000 Special Area of Conservation. The abundance of water explains the farming that once flourished here: estates and manor houses in traditional architecture can still be picked out along the course of the ravine.
