Playa de la Laja
A black sand beach at the southern entrance to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, about 1,200 metres long and with moderate swell. It is presided over by a sculpture of the god Triton set on a lookout from which the eastern shoreline of the capital can be seen as far as the volcanic peninsula of La Isleta. It has three natural pools whose water is renewed by the tides. Ciudad de Mar warns of strong currents that call for extreme care when bathing.

Playa de La Laja stretches along the southern entrance to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the Cono Sur of the city. It has black sand, measures about 1,200 metres and its swell is moderate, which makes it comfortable for walking. It is presided over by a sculpture of the god Triton set on a lookout from which the whole eastern shoreline of the capital can be seen as far as the volcanic peninsula of La Isleta.
The beach has three natural pools whose water is renewed by the action of the tides: a crescent-shaped children's pool, a family one and a third adapted for regulated sports. Ciudad de Mar warns that, facing the open sea, the beach is crossed by strong currents that call for extreme care when bathing. In summer there is a lifeguard service and public toilets.
