Playa de la Aldea
A beach on the west of Gran Canaria, in La Aldea de San Nicolás, the westernmost municipality on the island. Its most recognisable feature is the Charco de La Aldea, a lagoon of filtered water lying beside the shore. The backdrop is made by the great cliffs of this coast, the least populated part of the island. The municipality keeps a strong farming and fishing tradition, with tomatoes as its export crop.

Playa de la Aldea lies on the west of Gran Canaria, in the municipality of La Aldea de San Nicolás, the westernmost on the island. The feature most identified with it is the Charco de La Aldea, a lagoon of filtered water that forms beside the shore and gives its name to one of the most recognisable corners of this coast.
The setting is a stretch of shoreline where, as the official tourism portal puts it, the great cliffs go from brushing the sky to plunging into the Atlantic. The west is the least populated part of Gran Canaria, and that shows in the tone of the place. The municipality keeps a strong farming and fishing tradition and is a heavyweight in exporting tomatoes to mainland Europe, so the landscape of greenhouses and the landscape of cliffs sit within a few kilometres of each other.
