Solemne Función de las Ánimas and procession in Barranco Hondoverified
In Barranco Hondo, the parish church of San José holds the Solemne Función de las Ánimas, a solemn service for the souls of the dead, followed by a procession around the square. It takes place on Saturday 7 November and belongs to «Ánimas y rituales 2026», the programme in which Candelaria devotes October and November to the culture of death and to the traditions around the night of Finados.
The Solemne Función de las Ánimas is one of the religious-tradition events of «Ánimas y rituales 2026. La cultura de la muerte», the programme through which Candelaria Town Council revives, over October and November, the customs, beliefs and rituals linked to the night of Finados and to the memory of those who are gone. This time the setting is the parish church of San José in Barranco Hondo.
The service is followed by a procession around the square, the part of the event that moves out into the street. Information on all the programme's activities is on the Town Council's events page at candelaria.es. The service begins on Saturday 7 November at 19:00.
