The San Roque romería, declared of Tourist Interest: ox carts, the descent to the harbour and the traditional blessing of the animals.
The Romería de San Roque in Garachico is one of the highlights of the Tenerife calendar and is officially declared a Festival of Tourist Interest. Every 16 August the historic centre fills with decorated ox carts, traditional dress and parranda bands.
What sets it apart from other romerías is the route down to the harbour and the traditional blessing and bathing of the animals, a rite tied to San Roque as their protector.
It forms part of the Santa Ana and San Roque patron-saint festivities, which fill much of July and August in the town.
