In Abades the romería is not led by ox carts but by boats: this is a romería barquera, typical of fishing villages. The boats are decorated and paraded along the shore, accompanied by parranda bands.
Abades is also one of the calmest beaches in south-eastern Tenerife, so the visit combines well with a swim.
