Día de la Patrona de Canarias: eucaristía solemne, procesión y lluvia de voladoresverified
The main day of the patron saint of the whole archipelago: a solemn mass at 12:00 in the basilica, led by the bishop of the Nivariense diocese, followed by a procession through the streets with the traditional shower of rockets.
15 August is the main day of the fiestas. At 10:45 comes the military parade and the reception of the King's representative, and at 11:30 the civic procession sets off from the town hall to the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, accompanied by the Las Candelas band.
At 12:00 the basilica holds the solemn concelebrated mass, led by the bishop of the Nivariense diocese and sung by the Voces para la Esperanza choir and the Las Candelas chamber orchestra. Afterwards the Virgin is carried in procession along Calle Obispo Pérez Cáceres and Calle Los Príncipes, under a shower of rockets. Broadcast live on La 2 de TVE en Canarias and TV Canaria. Practical note: because of refurbishment works on the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, the council asks visitors to take particular care in that area.
