Carnaval Senior is the late-afternoon slot aimed at older carnival-goers within the Santa Cruz de Tenerife carnival. It runs on the Dormitorum stage in Plaza de La Candelaria, right in the city centre, on the closing day of the fiesta, from five until eight. It is one of the calmer entries in the programme, held in the open air at an hour when the city still moves at an easy pace.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife carnival is not only nights and big parades. The official programme sets aside slots for particular audiences, and Carnaval Senior is the one for older carnival-goers: an afternoon of music and dancing in the street, on the Dormitorum stage in Plaza de La Candelaria, from five until eight. It falls on the closing day, when the city has already had days of costume and the mood is more farewell than opening. The programme does not publish the artistic line-up for this slot.
Plaza de La Candelaria sits at the heart of Santa Cruz, next to Plaza de España and the start of Calle del Castillo, so you can walk to it from anywhere in the centre or from the port area. On carnival days the centre is closed to traffic and parking nearby is hard, which makes public transport or a car left further out the easier choice. The stage is outdoors and there are no reserved seats, so arriving early matters if you want to be near the front, and be aware that after eight the square moves on to a separate programme of its own.
