Splash Gomera
Splash Gomera is a diving and watersports centre at Playa de Santiago, in the south of La Gomera. It occupies the Club Laurel beach club, in the grounds of the Hotel Jardín Tecina, a few metres from the sand and close to the harbour where its rib is moored. Besides diving it offers snorkelling, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding, and it is a PADI training centre for every level, from beginner to professional.
The centre works with more than twenty dive sites, all of them within a quarter of an hour by boat from the harbour, and it keeps exploring little dived stretches of the ninety two kilometres of Gomeran coast. The water stays mild throughout the year and visibility is usually good, which also suits underwater photography.
Regular sites include Punta del Espino, just outside the harbour of Playa de Santiago; El Águila, below the airport, with one large cave and three smaller ones; Cascante, with a tunnel that can be swum through; Punta Guincho, with an arch and basalt columns; and Roque del Herrero. Rays, moray eels, barracuda, trumpet fish, octopus and lobster are all seen. Experienced divers have drift dives and deeper reefs.
