Camino Natural de Fuerteventura
A long distance path that crosses Fuerteventura from north to south, waymarked as the GR 131 and part of the Spanish network of nature trails. It runs for roughly one hundred and sixty kilometres in nine stages, from the islet of Lobos and Corralejo down to PĆ”jara and Punta de JandĆa. This point marks the section at Vega de RĆo Palmas, among the eroded inland hills of Betancuria.

The Camino Natural de Fuerteventura links the two ends of the island along ravines, open plains and old mule tracks. Nine stages lead from the islet of Lobos in the north to Punta de JandĆa in the far south, through a semi desert landscape of lava fields, walled gavia plots and small villages. The red and white flashes of the GR 131 mark the way throughout.
The point shown here lies at Vega de RĆo Palmas, in the municipality of Betancuria, on the stage that joins Betancuria with PĆ”jara. That section runs a little over fifteen kilometres at moderate difficulty and passes the palm groves of the vega and the Granadillos valley. Shade is scarce in this part of the island and springs are almost absent, so it is worth carrying enough water and sun protection and setting off early on hot days.
