Your Name (Kimi no Na wa), directed by Makoto Shinkai (Japan, 2016), opens Filmoteca Canaria’s Japón se anima cycle, ten years after its release. A month has passed since a comet that visits Earth every thousand years was sighted from Japan. Mitsuha lives in the countryside and dreams of life in Tokyo; Taki lives in Tokyo and has a part-time job in an Italian restaurant. One night she dreams she is a boy from Tokyo, and he dreams he is a girl from the countryside. Beneath it runs the old Japanese belief in the red thread of fate, the akai ito.

Shinkai worked closely with RADWIMPS so that the music could grow alongside the story, resulting in four main songs and more than twenty instrumental pieces. The film runs 106 minutes and is screened in the original language with Spanish subtitles at Espacio La Granja in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Admission is free with an invitation collected in advance online or at the box office. The screening is on Thursday 15 October 2026 at 19:00.
