7th Torneo del Fajín, Canarian wrestling (Fundación CajaCanarias)verified
Repechage and final of the 7th Torneo del Fajín, organised by the Fundación CajaCanarias, with all categories, at the Terrero Municipal de Lucha Canaria «Tomás J. González Martín» in San Miguel de Abona, Tenerife. This grassroots Canarian wrestling tournament, held in October and November on six islands, awards a sash to the best wrestler in each category.
From 1943 until the mid-1960s, absolute championships were held in the Canary Islands to choose the wrestler of the year, and the winner received a fajín, a sash. The Fundación CajaCanarias revives that tradition with the 7th Torneo del Fajín, a grassroots lucha canaria competition for boys and girls in the prebenjamín, benjamín, alevín and infantil age categories. It runs through October and November, with rounds on Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, Fuerteventura and El Hierro, and each category winner receives the fajín that marks them as the best wrestler of that category at regional level. The champions and runners-up from the six participating islands in each category qualify for the grand final; the six runners-up are paired by draw for two places.
The repechage and final stage, with all categories, is held at the Terrero Municipal de Lucha Canaria «Tomás J. González Martín» on Calle La Constitución in San Miguel de Abona, and continues at the same venue on 29 November. This session starts on Saturday 28 November 2026 at 17:00.
