Tránsito is a chamber opera in one act divided into twelve moments, with music and libretto by Jesús Torres, winner of the Spanish National Music Prize in 2012, drawn from the play Max Aub wrote in 1944 and set during a sleepless night in 1947 in Mexican exile. The characters move among absences: those who are gone, what was never said, what was lost for good. Memory weighs on every relationship, silences and wounds are handed down, and mourning stops being individual and becomes collective. It portrays a moment when many republican veterans and exiles still hoped that the end of the Second World War would bring down the Franco regime. The work received the Impulso award for the best new contemporary lyric creation at the seventh Ópera XXI awards in 2025.
The performance takes place on Saturday 5 December 2026 at 19:00 in the Sala Sinfónica of the Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín, Santiago Calatrava's building on the seafront in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and lasts around 80 minutes. Tickets range from 10 to 30 euros.
