The Soul of Gospelverified
The Black Heritage Choir brings The Soul of Gospel to the Sala Sinfónica of the Auditorio de Tenerife, under the direction of Jerry Calvin Smith. The group gathers a selection of singers from the Mississippi Mass Choir and works as a choir of soloists, in which every member has a leading role. The concert traces gospel from its origins on the plantations to its most urban offshoots.
The Soul of Gospel reaches the Sala Sinfónica of the Auditorio de Tenerife with the Black Heritage Choir, directed by Jerry Calvin Smith. The group brings together a selection of singers from the Mississippi Mass Choir and describes itself as a choir of soloists, in which all its members have a leading role. The concert lasts around 90 minutes.
The repertoire follows gospel from its origins on the plantations to its most urban offshoots, and dwells on its influence over contemporary popular music, with figures such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and James Brown, who came out of African American churches. Admission is for ages five and over, and there is no entry once the doors have closed.
