Second qualifying night of the children's murga contest at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival 2027, held at the Recinto Ferial. Murgas are large groups that sing satirical lyrics about current affairs backed by percussion, and the children's groups follow exactly the same school, with boys and girls from the neighbourhoods. Each phase is a knockout round: the groups perform in turn before the jury and only some go through. The session on 30 January 2027 begins at 18:30.
The murga is one of the pillars of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival: a large group, with dozens of members in a matching costume of their own design, singing satirical lyrics about the political and social events of the year over percussion. The point lies in the text, written so that the audience instantly recognises who is being targeted, and in the collective staging. The children's murgas work to exactly the same school and are the nursery of the adult contest, the place where whole generations of neighbourhood carnival singers are formed. The competition is organised in phases, that is, knockout rounds in which each group performs in turn before the jury and only the best rated move on.
This second phase takes place on Saturday 30 January 2027 at 18:30 at the Recinto Ferial de Tenerife, the large exhibition hall on Calle Alcalde José Emilio García Gómez in the Cabo Llanos area of Santa Cruz, which hosts most of the carnival competitions. Bear in mind that murga evenings are long and very well attended, and that the atmosphere in the stands is as much part of the event as what happens on stage.
