Segunda fase del Concurso de Murgas Adultas - Carnaval de Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2027verified
Second qualifying night of the adult murga contest at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival 2027, held at the Recinto Ferial. Murgas are groups of dozens of members who sing satirical lyrics about the year's events backed by percussion, in a costume of their own and with staging worked on for months. Each phase is a qualifying round before the jury. The session on 2 February 2027 begins at 20:30.
The adult murga contest is one of the most closely followed events of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival. A murga is a large group, with dozens of members in a costume designed for the occasion, performing satirical lyrics about the past year over percussion. The repertoire is written specifically for each carnival and usually takes aim at politics, at how the city has been run and at whatever has been talked about locally, so the audience arrives expecting to recognise names and situations. Alongside the text, what counts is the tuning of the ensemble, the rhythm and the staging, all rehearsed for months in each group's own hall.
The competition is decided in phases, knockout rounds in which the murgas perform in turn before the jury and only some of them move towards the final. This second phase takes place on Tuesday 2 February 2027 at 20:30 at the Recinto Ferial de Tenerife, on Calle Alcalde José Emilio García Gómez in the Cabo Llanos area of Santa Cruz. These are long evenings with several groups per session, and the atmosphere in the stands is part of the show.
