Residencias SIT1 – Señora tu madre, by Raquel Ponceverified
Señora tu madre, by Raquel Ponce Hernández, is a movement piece about old age and motherhood, told from a body that still dances but is starting to feel foreign, clumsy and heavier. In the half-light of the Sala Insular de Teatro in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a torch held by her son lights up that body and raises a question: who is caring for whom? The piece is part of Residencias SIT.
Raquel Ponce Hernández is responsible for the original idea and direction of Señora tu madre, which she creates and performs with Martín Viera Ponce. Through an intimate, symbolic stage device, a torch held by her son, the piece stages the fear of ageing, the vulnerability of motherhood as the body declines and the reversal of caring roles between mother and son. A child's figure chooses what to reveal and what to hide: the torch becomes gaze, guide, judgement and tenderness. For the creator, dancing her own old age is a way of resisting it and inhabiting it.
This live arts piece is presented as Residencias SIT1 at the Sala Insular de Teatro in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with graphic design and video by Gregorio Viera. It lasts about an hour, is recommended for ages 7 and over, and tickets cost 10 euros, sold online. This performance starts on Saturday 31 October 2026 at 19:30.
