The 34th Canary Islands Zarzuela Season brings Los Gavilanes to the main hall of Teatro Pérez Galdós, a zarzuela in three acts with music by Jacinto Guerrero and libretto by José Ramos Martín, first staged in 1923. It follows Juan, a returning emigrant who made his fortune in the Americas, back to his village, and the triangle he forms with young Rosaura and with Gustavo. The performance on 24 October 2026 starts at 20:00, with the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra and its choir taking part.

Los Gavilanes is a zarzuela in three acts with music by Jacinto Guerrero and a libretto by José Ramos Martín, first performed in 1923 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid and regarded as one of the defining works of twentieth century Spanish lyric theatre. Set in a rural community, it centres on Juan, a man who returns to his village after making his fortune in the Americas, weighed down by loneliness, and who falls for Rosaura, far younger than him and already attached to Gustavo. Adriana, the girl's mother, pushes her daughter towards the wealthy newcomer in the hope of securing her future. The title refers to older, moneyed men who circle young women like birds of prey, and sums up the social criticism running through the piece. Musically it is known for its melodic richness and for numbers such as the romanza Mi aldea.

The staging belongs to the 34th Canary Islands Zarzuela Season and takes place in the main hall of Teatro Pérez Galdós, on Plaza Stagno in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with Rafael Sánchez Araña conducting, stage direction by Jorge Torres and the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra and its choir taking part. The performance is on Saturday 24 October 2026 at 20:00, and the doors open forty five minutes before curtain.
