The Inextinguishable
Concert A11 of the Sinfónica de Tenerife in the Sala Sinfónica of the Auditorio de Tenerife, conducted by Thomas Dausgaard. The programme opens with Beethoven's Leonora Overture No. 3, linked to his opera Fidelio, continues with Schumann's Cello Concerto with the soloist Truls Mørk, and closes with Carl Nielsen's Symphony No. 4, The Inextinguishable, a work born in a time of crisis.
The Sinfónica de Tenerife plays its concert A11 under Thomas Dausgaard. The evening opens with Beethoven's Leonora Overture No. 3, linked to Fidelio, his opera about freedom and the way out of prison, and continues with Schumann's Cello Concerto in A minor, a score of inward poetry in which the soloist Truls Mørk does not stand above the orchestra but seems to think and breathe with it.
The programme ends with Carl Nielsen's Symphony No. 4, The Inextinguishable, written in a time of crisis and built on the idea that life cannot be extinguished, with its rhythmic drive and its famous confrontation of timpani. A pre-concert talk is given at 18:30 in the Sala Avenida, in the hall of the Auditorio, by José Lorenzo Chinea of the Asociación Tinerfeña de Amigos de la Música. Access to the hall is allowed only to those over five years of age.
