Under the title La forja de un monstruo femenino: Erzsébet Báthory entre el archivo, el mito y las poéticas de lo siniestro en la tradición, Dr Laura Blázquez examines how the dark and bloody story of the Hungarian countess Erzsébet Báthory was culturally shaped into a monstrous figure, and how that figure was later projected onto the Anglo-Saxon literary tradition.

Laura Blázquez holds a doctorate in English languages and cultures and teaches in the department of English philology at the University of Jaén. Her research turns on monstrosity and on manifestations of the teratological in popular culture, and on the body as a battlefield where politics, biology and technology converge. She has recently co-edited the anthology Vampiros, on the vampire myth, for the publisher AKAL. The lecture belongs to the third series Una habitación propia.
