The second and final performance of La barraca at the Teatro Cuyás, directed by Magüi Mira and adapted by Marta Torres from the novel by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. Daniel Albaladejo leads a cast of eight in a story of land, rejection and a neighbourhood at war with itself in the market gardens of Valencia. It starts at 19:30 and runs for one hour and fifteen minutes. Tickets range from 12 to 23 €.
Batiste Borrull and his family move onto a plot in the Valencian huerta that another family used to farm, and from day one the whole neighbourhood turns its back on them. The local tenant farmers had agreed to leave those fields barren as a show of strength against the landowners, and the arrival of the newcomers turns that standoff into tragedy. Marta Torres adapts Blasco Ibáñez for the present day, and Magüi Mira directs the story towards unjustified rent rises, evictions, bullying and the friction between locals and incomers.
The cast is Daniel Albaladejo, Antonio Hortelano, Patricia Ross, Jorge Mayor, Antonio Sansano, Claudia Taboada, Elena Alfárez and Jaime Riba. This is the second of only two performances at the Teatro Cuyás, following the one on Friday the 30th, and it begins at 19:30 with a running time of one hour and fifteen minutes. Tickets range from 12 to 23 €, and the theatre sits on Calle Viera y Clavijo in the centre of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
