Prince Igor
Concert A15 of the Sinfónica de Tenerife in the Sala Sinfónica of the Auditorio de Tenerife, conducted by Julia Cruz. The programme starts from the overture to Borodin's Prince Igor, continues with the new Trombone Concerto by Francisco Coll, a co-commission played here by Ian Bousfield for the first time by the orchestra, and ends with Dvořák's Symphony No. 8, one of the composer's most luminous scores.
The programme starts from Borodin's epic imagery and ends in one of Dvořák's most luminous symphonies. The overture to Prince Igor places the listener in a world of narrative force, orchestral colour and melodic breadth, tied to the great Russian romanticism. At the centre of the concert stands the new Trombone Concerto by Francisco Coll, a co-commission that the Sinfónica performs for the first time.
The soloist is Ian Bousfield, and the trombone, so often associated with the orchestral background, moves here into the foreground. Dvořák's Symphony No. 8 closes the evening with an open and generous outlook, where freedom is expressed as expansion and song. Julia Cruz conducts. A pre-concert talk is given at 18:30 in the Sala Avenida by Sergio Rodríguez. Access is allowed only to those over five years of age.
