The Auditorio de Tenerife hosts the national tour of The Phantom of the Opera, the Letsgo production travelling around Spain after two successful seasons in Madrid. The music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Charles Hart and additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, and the book by Stilgoe and Lloyd Webber is based on the novel by Gaston Leroux. It tells a story of love, death and disaster between a musical genius hiding from the world in the depths of a theatre and Christine, a young woman with a heavenly voice who will discover the terror behind his mask. Federico Bellone directs this reimagined version, whose curtain is a giant broken mirror revealing the proscenium of a Paris opera house.
To mark 40 years since the 1986 premiere, the tour has added two new afternoon performances in Tenerife, on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 December. The musical is performed entirely in Spanish in the Sala Sinfónica, runs about two and a half hours with an interval and uses smoke and strobe lighting effects, worth knowing for people with photosensitivity. Tickets start at 54 €, and group discounts for ten or more people are only available at the box office. There is another performance at 20:00 on the same day; this one starts on Wednesday 30 December 2026 at 16:00.
