Coming Together
Concert A12 of the Sinfónica de Tenerife in the Sala Sinfónica of the Auditorio de Tenerife, part of the season Libertad o destino and sponsored by Fundación Occident. Jordi Francés conducts Stravinsky's Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments with the soloist Curtis Phill Hsu, Coming Together by Frederic Rzewski, and Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor.
This programme has a significant place in the season Libertad o destino. Stravinsky's Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments proposes a freedom that rejects sentimentality and builds its strength on precision, pulse and an almost mechanical sound architecture, with the piano as mechanism and energy rather than as romantic hero. Coming Together, by Frederic Rzewski, starts from an imprisoned voice and from writing that repeats until it reaches an extreme energy.
Mozart's Symphony No. 40 closes the evening with one of the most intense works of classicism, where a dark and urgent emotion beats beneath the formal clarity. Jordi Francés conducts, with Curtis Phill Hsu at the piano, winner of the 70th Maria Canals International Music Competition. A pre-concert talk is given at 18:30 in the Sala Avenida by Cristina Arnay. Access is allowed only to those over five years of age.
