Cariño maloverified
La Salita at the Auditorio de Tenerife presents Cariño malo, the first production by the Peruvian company Ministerio de la Belleza and winner of the Audience Award at the Mostra Internacional de Teatro Cómico e Festivo de Cangas 2026. It is a queer melodrama mixing theatre, radio drama and Peruvian criolla music: Silvio, a 40-year-old man ruled by his mother, runs away from home and gets a job on a radio soap.
Cariño malo is the first production by the Peruvian company Ministerio de la Belleza, written and directed by Alejandro Clavier, and it comes to La Salita at the Auditorio de Tenerife with the Audience Award of the Mostra Internacional de Teatro Cómico e Festivo de Cangas 2026. A repressive society, secrets from the past and a suitcase full of money are among the ingredients of this homage to Ibero-American melodrama, which reworks great classics of Peruvian criolla music from a queer perspective. Silvio, a 40-year-old man living under his mother's control, runs away from the family home determined to break free and finds work on a radio soap; what starts as an attempt at emancipation turns into a wild, violent and comic adventure about desire, guilt and liberation.
On stage are Sebastián Stimman, Diego Salinas and Alejandro Clavier, in a Ministerio de la Belleza production co-produced with Teatro La Plaza. The play runs for about 75 minutes and is recommended for ages 14 and over. There are three performances: Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November at 19:30, and Sunday 8 November at 12:00. This performance is on Saturday 7 November 2026 at 19:30.
