Cursed art: works, artists and mysteries on the other side of beautyverified
Talk by art historian Ana Moruno at the Biblioteca Canaria in Adeje on the darker side of art: works that carry legends, images of death and evil, superstitions, supposedly cursed works, spiritualism and the occult. It also looks at how images have helped people face fear and protect themselves from the dark. Organised by the council's department of historic and artistic heritage; free entry.
In Arte maldito, art historian Ana Moruno takes the audience into the territory where beauty meets mystery: works that hide enigmas, carry legends or seem to keep secrets that outlast the centuries. Over time people have painted their fears, given evil a face and imagined death, but they have also made images to protect themselves from what they could not explain.
The talk covers works, stories and enigmas linked to death, evil, superstition, supposedly cursed works, spiritualism, the occult and the great mysteries of art. It is organised by Adeje council's department of historic and artistic heritage at the Biblioteca Canaria, with free entry. It takes place on Wednesday 28 October 2026 at 18:00.
