XII San Andrés y Sauces uphill time trialverified

Sport

The Cronoescalada de San Andrés y Sauces reaches its twelfth edition in 2026, twelve years after the 2014 start that turned it into a fixture of La Palma cycling. It is an uphill individual time trial: 4.8 kilometres, 250 metres of positive elevation gain and an average gradient of 5.2 %, running from Puerto Espíndola up to the Plaza de Montserrat in the north of the island.

Riders set off from the Puerto Espíndola area and climb to the Plaza de Montserrat, where the finish line is. On paper it is 4.8 kilometres, but a cronoescalada means every rider goes alone, against the clock and against an average gradient of 5.2 % that adds up to 250 metres of climbing. The organiser is Barlobike, the club that launched the project back in 2014.

Entry has to be arranged in advance: registration opened on 23 July and closes on 2 September. Race numbers are handed out the same morning at the Plaza de Montserrat, and the prize giving takes place there as well. San Andrés y Sauces, in the north east of La Palma, has come to expect this cycling date in late August or early September.
