Saturday 19 is the busiest day of Festival Boreal's socio-environmental programme on Plaza de la Luz in Los Silos: eight workshops from late morning until eight in the evening, all free to attend and designed to be done as a family.
The morning opens with a rhythm and movement workshop, continues with painting the local fauna and flora, and ends with a session on capturing a memory inside a jar. The afternoon turns more hands-on: building a sandunga, the traditional Canarian instrument, watercolour illustration of marine biodiversity, a collage workshop taken further, face painting and, to close, Canarian kokedama. Everything takes place on the square itself. Places in each workshop are limited, so it is worth arriving before the stated time, especially for the afternoon sessions, which overlap with each other. The festival concerts are a separate matter: they take place on the car park esplanade of the historic centre from 5 p.m. and require a day ticket or a pass. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. workshop «Ritmo y cuerpo en familia», with Nuria Herrero. 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. workshop «Acércate pintando a la fauna y la flora que nos rodea», with Belén Déniz Martín. 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. workshop «Enfrascarte o cómo atrapar un recuerdo», with Alejandra Arbizu. 4 to 5:30 p.m. making the traditional Canarian instrument sandunga, with Nayra Pérez (Majiñeñe Artesanía). 4:30 to 6 p.m. workshop «Tesoros del mar canario», watercolour illustration of marine biodiversity, with Carina Hernández. 5 to 6:30 p.m. chiratismo workshop, beyond collage, with Gema Chirato. 5 to 7 p.m. face-painting workshop «BoreArte», with CreArte (Guasi Acosta). 6 to 8 p.m. workshop «Banadama: descubre la kokedama canaria», with Miguel Pernas and Alejandra Chaverra.
