Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady: mass, procession and fireworksverified
The day of Tijarafe's patron saint: a solemn mass with two choirs, a procession with the town band, a tableau vivant, a sung loa to the Virgin and fireworks to close.
8 September is the patron saint's day and the central act of the Tijarafe fiestas. At 20:00 the rosary is prayed and at 20:30 the solemn mass is celebrated, with the Coral Municipal de Tijarafe and the Coral Awara.
The procession with the venerated image follows, accompanied by the Banda Municipal de Tijarafe. Along the route there is a tableau vivant and a loa to the Virgin sung by Nina González and Yanira Rodríguez, with both choirs under the direction of Marcos Francisco Lorenzo. Fireworks are set off at the end.
The loa deserves attention: it is a sung composition addressed to the image, and on La Palma it has survived as a living part of patronal processions rather than a re-enactment. Anyone who comes the night before for the Devil and stays one more day sees both faces of the same fiesta.
