Solemne Eucaristía y procesión de la Virgen de Candelaria en Chipudeverified
Friday is the long day of the fiestas: it opens at 11:00 with the craft fair, carries on with dancing from midday, and at 19:30 comes the solemn mass in honour of the Virgen de Candelaria and the procession with chácaras and drums. The night dance runs until five in the morning.
Friday 14 August is the longest day of the Chipude fiestas.
Daytime. From 11:00 to 18:00, a craft fair. From 12:00 to 18:00, daytime dancing with Sensación Gomera, Amanecer de La Gomera and Nueva Ilusión. From 18:00 to 19:15, Puntos Cubanos.
19:30, solemn mass in honour of the Virgen de Candelaria. The traditional procession follows, accompanied by chácaras and drums. The Ave María is sung by Gustavo Cabrera.
Grand night dance, 22:00 to 05:00, with Tony Tún Tún y su orquesta, Orquesta Malibú, Elías García and Orquesta Gomera.
Chácaras are the large wooden castanets particular to La Gomera, and with a drum behind them they are the sound the island uses to bring its virgins out into the street.
