Representación Alegórica de la Batalla de Lepantoverified
An allegorical staging of the battle of Lepanto, declared Bien de Interés Cultural by the Canary Islands government in 2009 and the high point of the Fiestas del Rosario in Barlovento, in the north of La Palma. It takes place at the Mirador de la Fuente del Llano, where the image of the Virgin is carried beforehand.
The image of Nuestra Señora del Rosario is carried up to the Mirador de la Fuente del Llano, accompanied by the local authorities and by the Banda Municipal de Música Tabladitos, to witness from there the allegorical staging of the battle of Lepanto. The Canary Islands government declared it a Bien de Interés Cultural in 2009, and that is what sets these festivities apart from any other August gathering.
The flag of the victorious forces is then raised while the Banda Municipal Tabladitos plays the national anthem, and the Christian troops parade with their prisoners along Calle El Calvario and Calle Constitución as far as the church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario. The viewpoint lies on the lower edge of the village, about a hundred and twenty metres from the square.
