Wine night at the Santa Bárbara fiestasverified
Icod de los Vinos carries wine in its very name, and the Santa Bárbara district gives it a whole evening within its fiestas, with three acts on the square.
The town's full name, Icod de los Vinos, is no accident: the wine of this district has been part of its history since the sixteenth century. The Santa Bárbara neighbourhood sets aside one night for it within its patron-saint fiestas.
On Wednesday 26 August the day starts at 10:00 with children's activities and continues at 15:00 with the Bajada del castaño, one of those neighbourhood customs that appear in no guidebook and make far more sense once you have watched them. At 19:00 comes the wine night, with El Chirato, Quimbao La Nuit and Dj Carmenatis.
It all takes place in the Santa Bárbara district, in the upper part of Icod, not in the old town where the thousand-year-old dragon tree stands. Worth bearing in mind when working out the journey.
