Día de las Escritoras 2026 pays tribute at Espacio La Granja to Lola Suárez (Arrecife, Lanzarote, 1955), an author of children’s and young adult literature and a teacher devoted to promoting reading. The islands, their history and culture take centre stage in her work, in titles such as Cleta y Domitila, Maresía and El misterio del collar. This is the ninth edition of the Canary Islands Government’s tribute. For all audiences. Free admission until capacity is reached.
To highlight the work of women authors, historically marginalised within the literary canon, the Canary Islands Government marks Día de las Escritoras (Women Writers’ Day) this year with a tribute to Lola Suárez (Arrecife, Lanzarote, 1955). In this ninth edition she follows Alicia Llarena, María Joaquina de Viera y Clavijo, Cecilia Domínguez Luis, Roberta Marrero, Olga Rivero Jordán, María Teresa de Vega, Isabel Medina and Elsa López. Suárez has devoted much of her professional life to promoting reading through her work as a teacher.
In her books the islands, their history and their culture take centre stage, as in Cleta y Domitila, Maresía and El misterio del collar. Día de las Escritoras began in 2016 as a nationwide commemoration to recover and give visibility to the legacy of women authors. The event lasts 60 minutes, is suitable for all audiences and admission is free until capacity is reached. It takes place at Espacio La Granja on Wednesday 21 October 2026 at 20:00.
